As promised, the BBC announced today the identity of the actor playing the next Doctor on Doctor Who. Downton Abbey’s Jodie Whittaker will step into the role, marking the first time in the show’s 50+ years that the character will be portrayed by a woman. Welcome to the family of Doctors Whom, Ms. Whittaker!

Now I just have to get on finishing the last Peter Capaldi series (it’s excellent, I’m just terrible at watching television in a timely manner).
